A guide to care questions

Before trusting the claim

What could go wrong?

Ask about the exact preparation and the person assessing you. The word peptide is too broad to answer the harm question.

Care facts as of September 2026.

What gaps does FDA describe?

FDA is the U.S. drug agency. A compounded product is one prepared to order.

Before a compounded product reaches the market, its benefit, quality and possible harm receive no FDA review, as of September 2026.

For certain peptide ingredients, FDA raises concerns about the body reacting to them and unwanted material in the product. It also has too little information to judge harm to people.

A reaction from the body’s defences means they treat a substance as an invader.

Ask which concerns apply to the proposed ingredient.

Why does an injection deserve its own questions?

FDA has told peptide sellers that injected products bypass some body defences and can cause serious harm from germs or toxins.

Ask who prepares the product and how its quality is checked. Ask about the alternatives to that route.

Is there a storage rule for all peptides?

Each product has its own storage requirements: some peptide medicines must stay cold, while others are kept at room temperature.

Ask for the instructions for the exact product and whom to reach if the delivery seems wrong.

What about pregnancy or breast-feeding?

Pregnancy and breast-feeding information for approved medicines receives FDA review. Compounded medicine lacks that reviewed information, as of September 2026.

Bring pregnancy plans, breast-feeding, past reactions and your current medicines into the care conversation.

When is it an emergency?

Severe allergic reactions can threaten life and need emergency care.

For severe trouble breathing or a swollen tongue, the U.S. National Library of Medicine directs people to emergency help.

Do not wait for a guide to answer an urgent problem.

Can I report an unwanted problem?

MedWatch is FDA’s reporting service for medical product problems, and patients can use it.

The report alone cannot establish that the event was caused by the medicine.
