A guide to care questions

Reading the care rules

Can this exact treatment be offered?

Start with the product and the way it is supplied. A broad phrase about peptide therapy cannot settle that.

Care facts as of September 2026.

Does the name settle the rules?

The many offers called peptide therapy do not all fall under one U.S. legal rulebook, as of September 2026.

FDA, the U.S. drug agency, distinguishes approved drugs from compounded preparations and unapproved new drugs.

Does made to order mean unlawful?

Compounding can serve a patient need within legal conditions, but its products are not FDA-approved as of September 2026.

Compounding means preparing a medicine to order.

Under the rules for ordinary pharmacies and doctors, a starting ingredient must meet its official written quality standard, if one exists.

Without such a standard, the ingredient must be found in a drug with FDA approval. When both of those routes are absent, compounding requires an entry for that ingredient on the official list allowing additional ingredients.

An ingredient being part of an approved drug does not give FDA approval to a medicine made to order from it.

Ask the pharmacist which condition the ingredient meets and to show you the standard or list entry. A business licence does not answer that question.

What about a research label?

In letters checked in September 2026, FDA challenged products labelled for research but advertised for use as medicine.

FDA accused those sellers of sending unapproved drugs across state lines in breach of federal law.

Those letters accuse specific sellers of breaking the rules; they are not court decisions.

What answer can I ask a prescriber for?

Ask for the ingredient name in full, including the particular version being used. Ask whether the finished medicine has FDA approval and why this way of supplying it applies to you.

If the answer is just that all peptides are allowed, ask for the product-specific explanation.

What can I take away?

The product, the patient need and the supply route all belong in the answer.
